Road Safety

We came back in January to find a zebra crossing in our role play area!  We had arranged loan of the road safety pack from South Gloucestershire’s library service and this allowed us to talk to the children about keeping safe near roads and also of the importance of wearing a seat belt in the car.  The children listened to stories about road safety at circle time and had a go at identifying different traffic sounds to develop their listening and reasoning skills.  The crossing, traffic lights and traffic beacons remained with us for two weeks.

During this time we took the opportunity to practice crossing the road outside the preschool (during quiet times)!  This was done two at a time walking along the pavement in our high viz jackets.  We took teddy who had his own high viz jacket too.  We looked at the no parking sign and the zig zags outside the school and then worked through the green cross code – STOP, LOOK and LISTEN!  The children enjoyed taking home their Harry Hedgehog road safety certificates to demonstrate what they had learnt.
