Preschool Update October 2011

This Term

We have welcomed some new children again this term and have been helping them to settle in and get to know our routines. All children are now confident in getting around and helping themselves to resources. We have been planting in the garden and ventured on to the common to get the children used to being off site before we extend our forest skills activities over the coming months.

The children have enjoyed the role play areas which we have set up so far as the three bears cottage, a hairdressers and last week as an opticians. These have come from observations of children’s play which we have been able to develop further by introducing more resources.

Next Term

With the cooler weather now upon us we are still aiming to spend as much of our time outside as possible. Please can we remind parents to ensure all children come with suitable clothing for outdoors. We have a boot box now if you want your child to bring some wellies in with them. All clothing needs to be labelled as not all children can recognise their own coats (although this is something we are working on!)

We will be starting our preschool library service again next term. Your child will be able to spend time with their key worker in our quiet room which we have set up as a library, looking at a selection of books and then choosing one to bring home with them. Please can parents make sure that they return the book approximately two weeks later so that they can visit the library again and choose a new book.

With the darker mornings and evenings shortly arriving, Lisa is going to begin to work with the children looking at road safety. We are creating a display with the children and hoping to have a police officer visit us too.
