Ofsted Good with Outstanding Features

posted 20 Dec 2014, 02:37 by Zoe Hendy   [ updated 20 Dec 2014, 02:38 ]
We have been celebrating this month after being recognised by Ofsted as Good for a second time in our most recent inspection.  In addition, Ofsted have awarded us the highest rating of Outstanding in one of the three key areas of assessment; the contribution of the preschool to the well-being of children.

Zoe Hendy, Manager at the preschool said “we are especially pleased with the rating this year because there has been an overhaul of inspections in early years where the bar has been raised significantly.  We work extremely hard to provide the best possible start for all of our children and we are delighted that the setting has been recognised in this way.”

Hambrook Hedgehogs opened in 2011 and runs preschool sessions for children from the age of two upwards.  We attract children from a wide geographical area including Frenchay, Winterbourne, Stoke Park, Coalpit Heath, Frampton Cotterell, Stoke Gifford, Bradley Stoke, Downend and Emerson Green as well as the local Hambrook community. We have a strong relationship with our neighbour Hambrook Primary School, for whom Hambrook Hedgehogs also run a very popular after school club.

Zoe, a qualified forest school leader and one of two staff at Hambrook Hedgehogs with forest skills qualifications, added “We were pleased that Ofsted recognised the benefits that our emphasis on outdoor play has for the children. In addition to our own outdoor areas we are fortunate to be able to make good, regular use of Hambrook Primary School’s nature garden too, helping the children learn through outdoor play.

“We have a strong, highly qualified and experienced team which was recognised by the inspector whose praise included particular emphasis on our teaching strategies, our stimulating environment and our relationships with both children and parents.”
