Preschool Provision

The preschool is run by a very highly qualified team who encourage the development of our preschoolers by learning through play. Details about the qualifications of the team, our experience and why we think you should choose Hambrook Hedgehogs preschool are available in our About Us section. We're very proud of the good rating with areas of outstanding provision that Ofsted awarded us in July 2011 and we encourage you to read what Ofsted said about us at this link.

We provide morning preschool sessions from 9.30 to 12 and afternoon sessions from 12 to 2.30.  We also offer all day sessions from 9.30 to 2.30.  A healthy snack and drink is provided in the morning session with fresh water provided throughout the day. Children attending in the afternoon or all day will be required to bring a packed lunch.

Free pre-school places are available for children who qualify for the nursery education grant during any of the above sessions.  Please click here to check your child’s eligibility to the nursery education grant.

Although situated next door to Hambrook Primary School and therefore acting as a good feeder preschool for Hambrook, parents from across the Bristol BS16 area including Bradley Stoke, Winterbourne, Frenchay, Downend and Coalpit Heath have brought their children to our preschool after assessing our preschool provision.

In addition to these hours we offer the following options to extend the preschool day (fees payable) to perhaps tie in with the school days of older siblings or work requirements.
  • "Early Hedgehogs” – option to drop at 9.00 for extra play time before the start of the preschool session.
  • "Late hedgehogs” – option to collect at 3.00 for more play time after the end of the preschool session.
Our hourly rate is £3.90. Please see the examples below for an explanation of fees payable.

Our fees for a morning or afternoon session for children not covered by the 15 free hours of nursery education grant will be £9.75 (i.e. £3.90 x 2 and 1/2 hours).

For a child using the nursery education grant for a full day (5 hours of their entitlement) but wanting to stay from 9 to 3 our fee will be £3.90 for the extra hour (half hour at start and end of free nursery education grant sessions).

Child Care vouchers are accepted.

We welcome parents and carers to come and play with their child during the settling in period if they want to or if they feel that it is beneficial to the child.

Parents are welcome to visit the setting at any time to discuss their child’s preschool provision and to view their learning diary.
