Session Leader

I have always been interested in how we learn and in helping the development of other people. Before starting a family I worked for many years in managerial roles including several years as a training manager. When my second child was old enough to toddle I embarked on an Honours degree in Psychology, a course that included Child psychology.

I soon realised how much I enjoyed working with under-5s and this lead me to further my studies in order to obtain a Post Graduate Diploma in Early Years with Merit, together with Early Years Professional Status (the early years equivalent of Qualified Teacher Status).

In 2012 I completed my dissertation in order to obtain a Masters Degree in Education (Early Years) with Merit (a level 7 qualification).  This involved detailed research into the benefits of providing preschool education rich in gross motor skill development and how this can aid prewriting skills in preparation for school.

In 2012 I also completed an advanced Forest School Leader qualification that has enabled us to provide plenty of variety to our outdoor provision. Since then I have been approached by South Gloucestershire council to run training for other early years practitioners and primary teachers in the local area in order to introduce them to the benefits of using Forest Skills to enhance their provision too.

I believe that my own study and development not only supports the children but allows me to help my staff to achieve their full potential too.  I am proud of my highly skilled team and was therefore delighted in 2013 when South Gloucestershire council invited me to become a Lead Practitioner; demonstrating my team's best practice to other preschools and nurseries in the South Gloucestershire area.

I was pleased to be able to set up our preschool in Hambrook because of the great respect I have for our next-door neighbours, Hambrook Primary School. Both of my children attended Hambrook school before moving onto secondary education so I know many of the excellent staff there. It is always a pleasure to welcome the Hambrook Primary School children to our After-School Club.  We enjoy our joint activities with Hambrook's reception class, which help many of our preschool children prepare for their transition into primary schools both at Hambrook and other neighbouring schools in Bristol.

When I’m not working or studying, I enjoy spending time with my husband and children, as well as reading, going to concerts and the theatre or working in the garden.
